Jane’s figurative paintings are created with various backdrops from poolside or diving to the rodeo, or even the firing range, to catch a glimpse of the subject in their everyday life. Drawing from an emotion, Jane uses that as a springboard to create portraits of normalcy that elevate a common event to a special feeling we’re pulling from the subject, as if looking into their psyche. “Ultimately, the figures are metaphors for psychological states. Their body language conveys feelings."
It is that emotion that that Jane paints to represent a theme she wishes to emanate.
Jane received her MFA in painting from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she also taught painting, and her BFA from Ohio State University. She has exhibited nationally for over twenty-five years and is the Art and Photography Department Chair and Professor of Painting and Figure Drawing at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California.
Jane lives in Oakland, California.
